Co-author Catherine Hyde Townsend writes with first-hand knowledge of how she made the most of her own period of unemployment. From May 2001 until January 2002, she searched for a job after her graduation from Yale University's International Relations masters program. Catherine realized that what she most wanted was to enjoy her free time. Training for a triathlon, copy editing a book, and working at temporary jobs increased her self-confidence, structured her job search activities, and even made her a more marketable job candidate. Once Catherine discovered the positive impact of these activities on her happiness, she realized that other jobless could use these techniques as well. She is currently training for a Half-Ironman.

Catherine has extensive editorial and writing experience. Most recently, she copy edited a book for a former professor on U.S. federal policy toward international programs in higher education published by Routledge (Taylor & Francis Group). While at Yale, she served as an Articles editor for the Yale Human Rights and Development Journal. Her responsibilities included reviewing, critiquing, and selecting articles for publication and collaborating with an author to develop his thesis and effectively organize his arguments. Yale recognized Catherine's research and writing abilities, awarding her the Academic Excellence Award in her masters program. While at Hamilton College, Catherine contributed to the weekly campus newspaper as a reporter, features editor, opinion columnist, and managing editor. Catherine obtained her B.A. in World Politics and German, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude.

Co-author Kevin Martone is an avid writer who gained a wealth of business writing and editing experience during the past seven years as a consultant at Deloitte Consulting.
